Has Someone Told You That You Have Bad Breath?

Has Someone Told You That You Have Bad Breath? No one likes to be told they have bad breath. Your breath reflects directly on how people perceive you overall. It also indicates that you need to take better care of your gums and teeth. The following information will go over the reasons for bad breath and how you can prevent it.

What Causes Bad Breath?

Bad breath, or halitosis, can affect people of all ages and lifestyles. If you don't properly clean your teeth each day, the leftover food debris can increase bacterial growth, which causes halitosis. You should floss and brush daily, and use an anti-bacterial mouthwash to keep your mouth and breath clean and fresh. The same holds true if you wear dentures. If you don't properly clean your dentures each day, your breath will not be all that pleasant.

How to Prevent Bad Breath

Besides brushing and flossing, or cleaning your dentures, you can reduce mouth odors by using a tongue scraper. This tool will also get rid of the bacteria that settles and lingers on the tongue. Use an anti-bacterial mouthwash that contains a therapeutic ingredient to control bad breath. Some mouthwashes are considered cosmetic, as they only mask halitosis or temporarily alleviate the problem. Therapeutic mouthwashes, however, control halitosis. Look for a product that contains Cetylpyridinium chloride, as it will kill the bacteria associated with bad breath. Mouthwashes that contain chlorhexidine and essential oils also control gingivitis and plaque. A therapeutic mouthwash may be obtained over-the-counter or by prescription.
